Tropical storm Andrés Manuel will leave a trail of black days. One of those obscurities will be the trivialization of the word. He has discovered the lukewarm water of demagoguery: releasing a string of banalities on a daily basis, Chico Che included, to empty the speech of all content. Today in our country almost nothing is discussed with arguments, the debate is reduced to offending the other. The hurricane of the palace does not go a day without talking about the conservatives, the fifís, their opponents, the right. “Mr. President, but the army spies.” “We are not the same,” he answers from the gallery, “my opponents want to discredit me” and the morning blah blah blah that we already know by heart.
On Tuesday, October 4, in the Senate, when discussing whether or not to prolong the presence of the Army in public security tasks, the discussion turned to a horrifying set of personal attacks: Lily Téllez began by attacking without evidence. She called the brunette senators a “ball of corruption”, sat down and silenced Gómez Urrutia and accused him of being a union leader who has unduly benefited from the workers. She then said that the morenistas would vote in favor of the initiative like hyenas that eat the leftovers that the president throws at them.
One of the responses to such offenses came in the words of Senator Rocío Abreu, who accused Téllez of sleeping with half the world at the television station where she worked and of “lowering her husband” to a friend. More shadows of this left that attacks the sexual life of a woman to defend herself against accusations of corruption and submission. Shame on the prudish left. I wish Abreu learned a little from her partner María Clemente, a deputy who is also dedicated to being, in her words, a “whore.” María Clemente uploaded a pornographic video to her Twitter account because she, she says, is her job, which she defends with her face held high. Voluntary pornography must, of course, be protected by free speech. And the office of deputy María Clemente must be regulated and protected by law. Here it is good to make a clarification: much pornography and sex work are the product of human trafficking and not the free exercise of sexuality. But it is precisely for this reason that a bill to regulate sex work is urgent, to combat this type of slavery and provide rights to those who exercise it. Sex work in freedom is possible, whoever doesn’t believe it, should tell María Clemente who, as we see, defends her right to be a deputy and a “whore.” We will see the arguments for and against the initiative that she will propose. Let’s hope they don’t resemble the words of Abreu, who only reproduced a macho prejudice: that men can be promiscuous and women should be modest.
It is hopeless that the government of Andrés Manuel follows to the letter the adage that his archenemy Calderón was criticized so much for and do everything possible to win votes in the legislature “it has been as it has been.” The truth is that bending the opposition under the threat of prosecuting files speaks ill of everyone: of the corrupt in the opposition and the corrupt in power, for whom justice is nothing more than a bargaining chip. black days.
