Jimena Fuertes She is a visual artist from La Plata, who from a very young age had an approach to art; this, thanks to the fact that some of her relatives were linked to music and photography, which made her, since then, begin to go to recitals and art presentations, awakening an interest in the subject.
Although at that time Jimena Fuertes He didn’t even reach adolescence, he always knew he wanted to be artista passion that little by little began to define, not only through drawing, but also by experiencing other types of alternatives and artistic styles.
Yes ok Jimena Fuertes She did not go through an art school as such, all her experience, sensitivity and self-taught training have allowed her to consecrate herself in the field and to be today an outstanding national artist, because, among other things, her work is part of the collection of the MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art Buenos Aires and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Salta.
In that personal search as an artist, “she went through all the processes within art”, as she explains in an interview for Minuto Argentina, which led her to experiment with the figurative, abstract, geometric and, currently, to make works that implement elements of a more organic geometry with a mixture of lights and sounds.
As part of her career, she worked in the area of fashion productions, a period in which she was able to further develop all her creativity; nevertheless, then he decided to leave this job to be able to dedicate himself more to painting and, later, to get more involved, from the visual arts, in the social sphere.
In this way, he worked for eight years with the magazine “Hecho En Bs As”, a social initiative that works for the benefit of people in vulnerable situations; In addition, she was linked to other projects that worked with popular neighborhoods, because, as an artist, she is interested in maintaining that link between “art and the community.”
“A part of the visual arts that interests me a lot is art and community, that is, how art approaches different spaces and, based on certain practices, over time and a constant work process, transformations are produced. social”.
Also, with the passage of time, the artist began to explore with different elements and created different works that mixed the geometric with the sensitive. This is how later, in the year 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, “A liquid dream” was born, an installation that takes water as an element of inspiration.
Initially, Jimena He presented the cultural manager and producer of the Corvus Art platform, Sandra Rojas, with a project that sought to involve the concepts of visual arts with the audiovisual, for which she even thought of developing an immersive work.
However, later he realized that his priority as an artist was to talk about something that was “important in people’s lives”, so he takes water as a transversal element of the entire exhibition and, from there, ” ‘A liquid dream’, works with the imagination, with the flow, the environment and the sound”, because water, beyond being his inspiration for the work, would serve as a “spiritual bridge that unites worlds”.
This, since, as explained Powerful in dialogue for this newspaper, “thinking of water as something that has to be available to everyone, but it is not always”, it is important to think “what happens when there is something essential for my life and I do not have immediate access to get it and how this affects me.”
In this way, the artist expresses that “A liquid dream” speaks of the imagination, since the work itself generates an environment that is accompanied by lights and sounds, with which the viewer is able to connect with their emotions. and sensations, which, in turn, serves as a stimulus to develop imagination and creativity.
Likewise, this installation serves “to show people that there are other ways of living, thinking and managing in the world”, since each one is a different universe and, from there, from their own reality, they act and develop with others.
“A liquid dream”: a connection with the sensory
To reproduce all these ideas, in which water is linked to the spiritual and, in turn, to the imagination, the artist mainly used parts in colored acrylic material and mirror acrylic material; all this, mixed with geometry, lights and sound.
Also, each of these figures reflect each other and, with the image of water, which led them to lose their shape and submerge into the same “liquid space” that had been created throughout the exhibition.
In this way, water also served as an element that transports the viewer into the work, which stimulates all their senses and emotions, leading them to live a unique and personal experience.
“The idea was not only to put people in relation to an image, but also in relation to the setting and the objects”which in turn invited the viewer to be more connected with the present moment and to identify everything that that moment, full of stimuli, produced on a sensory and cognitive level.
The artist tells that, even, those who visited the exhibition told her that they felt as if they were part of another world, since the sensory stimulation was very strong; The work even evoked in them the feeling of being in a mother’s womb or in the middle of a dream.
Likewise, it highlights that the most characteristic feature of the installation, which was available until September 4 at the Amalia Lacroze Art Collection in Fortabat, was that the attendees always stated that it referred them to their own life experiences, feelings or emotions. .
As an artist, the message he wanted to convey was that of being able to access another world through the imagination, but also, in some way, appreciating the possibility of being able to access resources “necessary for the development of life”. and of the emotions of all the people of the world”, as is water.
“I took water as a way of saying: a fundamental right can never be denied, because it is part of my full intellectual, physical and vital development and because by being able to have that access, I am opening worlds and opening worlds is knowing that one has possibilities”.
After completing the installation, Powerful He highlights that this entire process allowed him to enter other worlds, which are not only framed within the visual arts and to overcome a challenge that not only had excellent results, but also managed to connect with the public from all dimensions.
Thanks to the success of the show, the artist plans to present her installation again next year, a project she will be working on for the next few months. However, some of the pieces of the work will be in Arteba in the coming months.
Likewise, the artist plans to create new works in which she can talk about specific things or topics; even, that are related to the environment, but, above all, she longs to be able to develop her art, get involved in projects of other artists and generate communities where respectful and collaborative work is promoted to reach more people and communities. .
