The Federal Police carried out 22 search and seizure warrants in the Pará cities of Ananindeua, Marituba, Barcarena and in the state capital Belém, this Wednesday (5th). The Operation called Euterpe, had the participation of the Judiciary Police of Portugal and the European Police Service (Europol), and the support of the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil.
The action is part of the police investigation into the export of 320 kilos of cocaine seized in the European country at the end of June. At the time, Operation Norte Tropical arrested three Brazilians in flagrante delicto for international drug trafficking.
“This morning’s search and seizure warrants took place at homes and businesses suspected of being part of a criminal group that takes large amounts of cocaine to Europe. Electronic devices and documents were seized that could reinforce the investigation and indicate the possible participation of other people in the crimes.
The three prisoners in Operation Norte Tropical remain in a Portuguese prison. From there, Europol entered into cooperation with the Federal Police and the Judiciary Police of Portugal to continue investigations and dismantle the criminal group that takes drugs from South America to Europe.
Regarding the name of the operation, the PF explains that Euterpe has to do with the scientific name of açaí, common in the North region. The cocaine taken to Portugal was hidden in a large load of açaí, shipped from the port of Vila do Conde, in Barcarena.
