The political prisoner Róger Reyes accumulates 410 days detained in the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as El Chipote, in Managua. During that time of captivity he has not been able to see his two daughters, three and five years old. Faced with this situation, he began a hunger strike on September 20 so that the regime allows him to meet his little ones again.
“My husband is someone who has dedicated his life to the defense of just causes, he has dedicated his life to the defense of freedom. Today Róger is imprisoned for doing good, locked up in the worst conditions,” his wife said in a video released by the Blue and White National Unity (UNAB), an opposition organization of which Roger Reyes is a member of the Political Council.

Róger Reyes was arrested in the vicinity of the Puma de la Pista Suburbana gas station on August 20, 2022. The Public Ministry, controlled by the Daniel Ortega dictatorship, accused Reyes, 36, of “carrying out acts that undermine independence , sovereignty and self-determination of Nicaragua».
During his confinement, Reyes has developed illnesses such as constipation, depression and insomnia problems, illnesses that he did not suffer from prior to the captivity of which he is a victim of the Ortega-Murillo regime.
Boys and girls have the right to see their parents, as stated in the Family Code. The law establishes that fathers, mothers, sons and daughters must maintain communication and that this right is not extinguished because the parents are in prison.
The Ortega justice sentenced Róger Reyes to ten years in prison for the alleged crime of “conspiring to undermine national integrity.” He was also disqualified from holding public office until the completion of his sentence.
