MIAMI, United States. – The group Justice 11J confirmed this Tuesday the arrest of 26 people for their participation in the protests that have occurred since September 30 on the Island.
Of the 26 arrested, 19 are still in detention, said the support group for victims of political violence.
Last Sunday, Justice 11J assured that 15 people had been detained during/after the protests that took place in Calle Línea, Vedado, and in Arroyo Arenas, La Lisa (Havana), as well as in Baracoa. The group also registered five other arrests that have occurred since last September 30, for a total of 20 arrests.
This Tuesday, Justice 11J assured that the names of Rafael Zamora Mederos, a member of the Movement of Opponents for a New Republic (MONR), arrested on October 1 and “accused of public disorder just for walking the street one day, were added to the list. of protest”.
In addition, for participating in the protests on Calle Línea on October 1, they are detained. Jose Adalberto Fernandez Canizares (38 years old)Alejandro Guilleuma Ibáñez (29), Hillary Gutiérrez (26) and Frank Artola (18).
“These last four are in the DTI 100 and Aldabó detention center, accused of the alleged crimes of resistance and contempt.”
On the other hand, in relation to the protests in Arroyo Naranjo, Niurka Ortega Cruz, a CID delegate in that locality, was arrested and released on October 2.
According to 11J, in the context of the protests of 11J, 15N and the second half of 2022, 1,719 people have been arrested, of which 740 remain in detention and 676 have been tried.
Of the 1,721 people arrested, 65 (3.8% of the cases counted) are minors.
“Reports of people being injured and brutally beaten in protest, and currently in detention, are alarming. We are also concerned about the situation of women and mothers (such as the case of Hillary Gutiérrez, who has a six-year-old girl), since we have observed that they are especially vulnerable in prison,” the group warned.
