Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Eduardo Vergara, reported on the increase in the security budget for all municipalities in the country for next year. The authority highlighted that 100% will be able to access patrol vehicles.
In conversation with the program Good morning to all of TVNVergara said that as of next year, the municipalities will no longer have to compete for resources to develop public security projects, but rather these will be assigned based on the needs of each commune.
The foregoing, thanks to the new Municipal Security System, which replaces the National Public Security Fund and will increase resources for municipalities from the current $7,774 million to more than $12,866 million in 2023. This investment will allow, among other measures, that each of the country’s communes have at least one preventive patrol vehicle.
“We as Undersecretary have identified a fairly significant number of municipalities that exceed 230 to 240 that require help. Simply put, after identifying that 30% of the municipalities in Chile do not have patrols, they do not have the capacity for preventive patrolling, this new budget will allow 100% of the municipalities in Chile to have access to patrols, ”he explained. the.
“This is an investment that translates into the importance of the patrol, not only the municipality is present, because we have advanced in agreements for mixed patrols where the municipalities together with Carabineros de Chile do joint work, with presence and territorial coverage. Thus, response times are reduced, but above all we deliver so that the municipalities address tasks and complement public security, ”he added.
Another item that was highlighted by the Undersecretary for Crime Prevention was the 90% increase in the budget for the Safe Reporting Program, an initiative that gives citizens the opportunity to report crimes 100% anonymously.
“One of the big problems we have in Chile is the black figure and the non-reporting. Citizens do not report due to mistrust in the judicial system or fear, and that is precisely where Denuncia Seguro points out. That is why we are going to inject more resources to be able to increase the complaint and be able to do preventive work and also persecution, ”he said.
