Congresswoman Katy Ugarte presented Bill No. 3120, which modifies various articles of Law 26271, to grant adults over 65 years of age or older, the right to a differentiated rate in the urban and interurban transport service to Nacional level.
At the national level, there are 1.2 million older adults who do not receive any pension. For this reason, the initiative would seek to provide a discount of up to 30% to the elderly in urban and interurban transport, based on the price that is currently being charged in the Lima Metro (S/ 1.50). .
“This initiative will benefit approximately 2,567,228 older adults. This group of people has been severely affected during the pandemic. For this reason, it is necessary that we can legislate in favor of the elderly, who in many cases receive a pension between 250 to 560 soles, there is also a percentage that does not receive any pension and lives thanks to the economic support of their family “, said Congresswoman Katy Ugarte.
The parliamentarian proposes that the discount be applied to all people aged 65 and over at the national level from Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 18:00 and Saturday, Sunday and holidays all day. For people to apply to that discount, they will only have to show their national identity document (DNI) to verify their age. With this discount, it is sought that older adults can have a differentiated rate of S/ 1.00 for the urban and interurban transport service.
