Chancellors of Celac sign agreements on climate adaptation

The foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) signed today an agreement dedicated to adaptation to climate change and a comprehensive response to natural disasters.

At a press conference after the close of the XXII Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Celac, held in this capital, the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, highlighted the importance of this fund, one of the first of its kind in the world.

He added that this program will have its main application in the Caribbean and for which his country and Argentina have already made their contribution.

The head of Mexican diplomacy passed the command to Argentina on Friday at the head of the leadership of Celac, a role that the Aztec nation played for almost two years due to the situation of the pandemic.

During the conference together with his Argentine counterpart, Santiago Cafiero, Ebrard stressed that two years ago this regional mechanism did not meet. We were divided, but today we all walk together in an atmosphere of cordiality and with the great sights that we have, he emphasized.

For his part, the host chancellor thanked the CELAC countries for their unanimous support to exercise the pro tempore presidency during 2022.

Argentina will assume the leadership of Celac this year, the main mechanism for regional integration in Latin America, without exclusions, with a policy of dialogue and consensus, stressed Cafiero. Around 30 delegations traveled to Buenos Aires to attend the meeting, which was closed at the Palacio de San Martín by President Alberto Fernández.
