“Furnishing private houses is a duty of DAPRE”, response to controversial spending by the Petro presidency

“Things cost that much,” some have justified, and others demand that the government maintain “the austerity that they preach” and explain publicly with the contracts why each piece of furniture and appliances will be bought for the official private houses of Petro and France.

Colombia News.

The curtains and almonds by Juan Manuel Santos; Iván Duque’s barbecue to the millionaire investment to furnish the private houses of the Presidency and Vice Presidency of Colombia, which Petro and Francia Márquez now occupy while they are in office, are the controversies from which none of the last three have escaped presidents the country has had.

Now, the $173 million they spent to furnish private homes in Bogotá, where Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez reside, are under debate.

The expenses were to buy from beds to televisions of 23 million pesos.

Those furniture were bought for the house of the president and the house of the vice president.

These purchases by the Administrative Department of the Presidency (Dapre), are:

  • An 85-inch television, worth $27.5 million.
  • Two glass-ceramic stoves, for $34.8 million
  • Two goose down feathers, for $8.2 million.

Among others, in the case of Vice President Márquez’s house, it was learned that she did request a change of beds for the staff. “The ones that are there are very small” and she pointed out that “comfortable and warm spaces are required for such a cold city.”

The answer

Mauricio Lizcano, in charge of these expenses, has been quoted on social networks, “to explain” in the midst of the austerity proclaimed by the current government and the tax reform that is taking place in Congress “because there is a lack of resources”, “because they are made These expenses”.

The senior official responded on Twitter: “Furnishing private houses is a duty of DAPRE after prior requests from the administrative heads of each house.”

He also clarified that “all purchases, as in this case, are made through the Colombia Compra Eficiente virtual store, a transparent mechanism.”

Before them, they ask that they be shown publicly, “so that we all have access to that information -not everyone has internet or knows how to search on that page-“.
