the independent media 14ymedio reported that it is Omar Ravelo, 63, who remained hospitalized in the burn room of the Calixto García hospital in Havana.
The victim was a driver of a 20,000-liter tanker from the Bauta Military Construction Unit, in Artemisa, and after the fire in the first tank he was sent to put out the fire and was hit by the huge explosion of the second tank, he said. 14ymedio.
According to the source, Ravelo had a major failure of several organs, including kidney, digestive system and immune response, which can happen in such cases, and on Saturday night he suffered a cardiac arrest from which the doctors could not get him out.
The user Hanry Leyva, husband of Ravelo’s daughter, shared an emotional publication on social networks where he referred to this man as “a great person”, and thanked the “lucky to have had him in his family”.
“You are and will be a hero. In case many do not know, you unconditionally and with a water pipe went without thinking to put out the explosion of the oil boilers. I never agreed with those who sent you there, I don’t want to say an ugly word here where there are plenty of beautiful ones to say,” Leyva said.
Of the 17 victims deadly in the fire, 14 were firefighters, of which their bodies could not be identified. The other three deceased died hospitalized.
According to the MINSAP note, 146 people were injured in the incident, of which six remain hospitalized and 123 patients were discharged. Of those admitted, three are reported as serious and three in critical condition.
