Petro supports temporary protection status for Colombians in the US

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, se showed in favor of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) pfor Colombian migrant citizens in the United States, similar to the one that already applies to citizens of Venezuela.

(Read: This is how politicians and businessmen have reacted to Presidency purchases).

I believe that a TPS for Colombians in the United States is necessary. I do not say it as a negotiation, it is not that because we make a TPS to Venezuelans in Colombia there should be one for Colombians in the United States (…) but because it is the human right”, pointed out the national president.

The message from the head of state was made in a joint statement with US Secretary of State Antony Blinkenwho visited the country to formally meet with the president on an express tour of the region in the framework of the next summit of the Organization of American States (OAS) to be held this week in Peru.

Other topics that were touched on at the meeting were drug trafficking “from a new, more comprehensive vision”; the peace process, land redistribution and security in the Americas.
