During the meeting held this Monday with the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, insisted on the need to reestablish the dialogue on Venezuela and the negotiation process between the government of Nicolás Maduro and the unitary platform. He emphasizes that the reactivation between both parties “is what is necessary so that Venezuelans do not feel that they must leave their country” and so that those who have left can return.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, requested this Monday, October 03, the reestablishment of the dialogue on Venezuela and the negotiation process between the government of Nicolás Maduro and the Unitary Platform. During a visit to Colombia, within the framework of the 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, the diplomat indicated that “the best way in which we can continue working for a prosperous and democratic Venezuela.”
“Our hope is that the Maduro regime and the Unitarian Platform can carry out a dialogue that leads to the necessary conditions to have free and impartial elections to restore democracy in Venezuela, so that they can once again have the support of the international community and to have a better context for Venezuelans,” Blinken stressed and assured, “this is what is necessary so that Venezuelans do not feel that they must leave their country and so that Venezuelans who have left their country can return.”

Blinken stressed that “governments that cast aside democratic norms must be held accountable.” The Secretary of State maintained that “our hope is that we see a resumption of dialogue, of negotiations, and that Venezuela can return to the course of democracy through free and impartial elections.”
