Billionaires in Colombia ask for a limit on taxes

Euro zone banks face growing risks until 2023

The focus on equity of the new government’s reforms is seen favorably by two of the most important billionaires in Colombia, David Vélez and Jaime Gilinski, who referred to the economy and taxation. Vélez, founder and CEO of Nubank, and who has a net worth of 6,500 million dollars, which places him as the second richest person in Colombia, explained that he agrees with the principle of the tax that indicates that those who have older income pay taxes; but he was clear in saying that “there is a limit”.

“Remember that the businessman is the goose that lays the golden eggs. If we take out too many eggs, the chicken dies or goes to another place where they treat it better. I leave it to the experts to decide where that limit is,” he said in his twitter account.

The founder of Nubank has explained that the tax change is good up to that limit in which people say “I’m leaving here for another country”. On the subject, he added in an interview that it was good that the Ministry of Finance indicated that it is evaluating the changes on the taxation of startups, a sector that had explained a serious affectation with the change that would be made in the calculation of equity.

In the case of Gilinski, the third richest man in the country with 4.2 billion dollars, he explained in an interview with El País, “that the intention to generate social improvement is good, and for that he needs resources. If he manages to generate that improvement and better growth, it will be good for the country. Like Vélez, the businessman explained that we must continue to follow up on the presentations and see how they end, “because there are some issues that can greatly affect investment and the capital market. I know that this is under review.”

The two businessmen are positive about the projection of the country, despite the difficulties they have analyzed.
