“The main element for us (Venezuela) of a presidency of Lula da Silva is that a stable and constructive diplomatic relationship could be resumed. This is a political fact of the utmost importance within the process of democracy in Latin America. It will be a key element, that was seen in the cases of Mexico, Colombia and Honduras”.
This is how the Vice President of the Foreign Policy Commission of the National Assembly (AN), Roy Daza, expressed himself this Sunday, during a Special Program on VTV, together with the internationalist Jean Paul Mertz, who offered their analyzes on the possible victory of Lula in the presidential elections, whose first round was held this Sunday in the South American giant.
“But, in addition, there is an economic fact: the diplomatic reestablishment with Brazil would take us to a new stage in the development of commercial exchange, decisive and very important for Venezuela, because we can be large suppliers of energy, at a time when the Oil and gas issues are relevant in the international scenario”, added Daza.
The Venezuelan parliamentarian affirmed that in Brazil the struggle between dictatorship and democracy is raised. And, in addition, the integration of Latin America is at stake, with the possibility of retaking Unasur, Celac and Mercosur. This possibility was raised with the dream of the Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, about the Caracas-Brasilia-Buenos Aires strategic line for the integration of the region.
He considered that a victory for Lula will allow Brazil to open up to progressive governments, assuming great challenges to once again democratize that country after the damage caused by the management of far-right Jair Bolsonaro.
He recalled that Bolsonaro came to power after the traps set in Brazil with the alleged “evidence” on corruption that the justice of that country processed to force him to unfairly abandon the first electoral race against the then right-wing candidate, in 2018. He said that Lula’s current candidacy “is the demonstration of how Bolsonaro came to power through lies and fake news (fake news).”
Blow to Dilma in 2015, part of the attack on Venezuela
The internationalist Jean Paul Mertz considered that the Parliamentary Coup against Dilma Rousseff, in 2015, was part of the geopolitical situation of planned aggression against Venezuela.
He commented that on that occasion, the quality of life of Venezuelans was tried to deteriorate through food.
“Economically, Mercosur is the largest food-producing bloc in the world, and part of what was the blow against Dilma was the US attempt to isolate Venezuela from food.”
Mertz said that the mere fact that Lula wins, and resumes his Zero Hunger program for the population of his country, would generate a positive impact throughout the region.
He also commented that one of Lula’s challenges will be the rescue of Brazil’s participation in Unasur and Celac, after Bolsonaro decided to withdraw the country from those important regional integration blocs, something that the continental right always tried.
“Brazil was the only country that withdrew, not even the other right-wing governments dared to do so much,” he recalled.
