In Supreme Decree No. 413-2019-EF, issued in 2019, economic compensation for district and provincial mayors has been established within the framework of Law No. 30057, Civil Service Law.
According to this rule, the mayor of Lima is entitled to a monthly financial compensation of 15,600 soles for his work.
Meanwhile, the remuneration of other mayors ranges between 2,600 and 13,260 soles. This is determined according to the amount of the electoral population of the jurisdiction that handles. In other words, the authority of a district with a large number of voters, such as San Juan de Lurigancho, will receive more money than a mayor of a sparsely populated area.
In Lima, the economic compensation varies between 3,300 and 13,260 a month.

Supreme Decree No. 413-2019-EF also details that district and provincial mayors receive only 12 financial compensations. However, they are creditors of a Christmas bonus for National Holidays and a Christmas bonus.
It is specified that “the bonuses for National Holidays and Christmas are granted for an amount equivalent to the economic compensation and are included in the payroll corresponding to July and December, respectively. The economic compensation, the bonuses for National Holidays and Christmas, as well as the economic delivery for the vacation right, are subject to social charges: Social Security in health and pensions, as well as Income Tax.
The norm maintains that “it is prohibited, under the responsibility of the Holder of the specifications, the perception of any other income, assignment, remuneration, incentive, subsidy, economic compensation or benefits of any nature for any concept or source of financing, in kind or money, in favor of the district and provincial mayors, in addition to or in replacement of the fixed amount”.
