Higuaín, the ‘killer’ who challenged Cristiano and Benzema in Madrid

Higuaín, the 'killer' who challenged Cristiano and Benzema in Madrid

Gonzalo Higuain, former Real Madrid striker 34 years old who militates in the MLS Inter-Miamiannounced this Monday that he will leave professional football at the end of this season. The ‘Pipita’ left a pleasant memory in the white club, where he managed to stand up to two ‘top’ forwards like Cristiano Ronaldo Y Karim Benzema.

In the season of the debut of the Portuguese crack in the white team, Higuain gave more points and scored more goals in the League than CR7 and in his last four championships, the Argentine international scored a total of 75 goals, 20 more than the French striker.

In the first campaign Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid (2009-10), Higuain He provided more points to his team than the Portuguese star (15 for 14) and scored more goals in the League (27 for 26, also without shooting penalties).

It cost Real Madrid 13.5 ‘kilos’

When Higuaín arrived in the winter of 2006 at Ramon Calderon’s Real Madridfrom River Plate, which transferred him for about 13.5 million euros. Very few believed in the young Argentine and an unfair nickname was manufactured: “Same as Ronaldo”, his critics said ironically about him to disparage him, but the striker, permanently questioned and ignored, never lowered his arms despite not having the necessary continuity.

The lack of aim in his first six months in white caused him to be given the sanbenito of being a striker with serious scoring problems, although it did not take long for him to become a decisive striker and architect of incredible comebacks that gave Real Madrid two league titles (2006-07 and 2007-08).

Victim of smear campaigns

Behind the return of Florentino Perez to the easy chair merengue (2009), Higuaín was the victim of continuous smear campaigns and was questioned even from the offices of the Bernabéu. The Madrid businessman never had faith in ‘Pipita’ and tried every summer to transfer the crack that he signed Pedja Mijatović under the mandate of Ramón Calderón to bring in another striker with more publicity, but Higuaín’s goals scuppered these plans.

A tireless fighter and impeccable professional, the excellent Argentine striker has always shown an irreproachable attitude on the pitch. He amply demonstrated it during his six and a half seasons (2,413 days) as a meringue player.

In his last four Merengue Leagues, Higuain scored more goals than Karim Benzema, his rival in the fight for the position of ‘9’. The Argentine scored 75 goals, twenty more than the Frenchman (55), which cost three times more than the Argentine (35 ‘kilos’).

Matched Juanito’s 121 goals

Higuaín signed 121 official goals with the white shirt (107 in League) in 264 games in all competitionsto which he also added 56 assists, and matched the legendary Juan Gomez ‘Juanito’. With Real Madrid he won six titles: three Leagues, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
