The Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) enabled as of this Monday the validation of identity by facial recognition through the “Mi AFIP” mobile application, with the purpose of “simplify and facilitate the carrying out of paperwork and procedures by optimizing technological resources that guarantee the integrity, transparency and security of the information”.
In April 2010, general resolution 2811 created the tax registry, biometric data collection, signature scanning, fingerprint and ID for taxpayers, establishing that the procedure should be carried out in AFIP offices.
Subsequently, “the development of the ‘My AFIP’ mobile application gave rise to the implementation of certain functionalities, in order to access various procedures in a more agile and simple way,” said the collecting agency.

Likewise, he highlighted “the constant cooperation between this Federal Administration and the National Registry of Persons (Renaper)” that allows “to adopt actions aimed at promoting the improvement of their respective databases and thus achieve a framework of efficiency, effectiveness and quality in provision of services offered to citizens”.
“Accordingly, it is considered opportune enable the ‘Biometric Data’ option in the ‘My AFIP’ mobile application so that taxpayers and responsible parties can validate their identity through facial recognition biometric authentication factors through electronic devices with mobile connectivitywithout the need to go to the dependencies of this Organism”, he specified.
To do this, he added, “it is necessary to adapt certain rules in order to make the different provisions applicable to the matter compatible.”
The use of the application will coexist with the usual Biometric Data Registration, which will take on “the character of an alternative method of exception in situations in which it is not feasible to validate the identity through the use of the aforementioned application”, as can be seen be “not having a national identity document (DNI) card, not having Internet connectivity, among others,” clarified the AFIP.
