Espaillat congratulates President Abinader for eliminating the $10 charge

NEW YORK.- Democrat Congressman Adriano Espaillat (D-13) congratulated President Luis Abinader for eliminating the $10 Tourist Card charge on airline tickets, and it will not apply to Dominican passengers.

“The president is to be congratulated for listening to the Dominican diaspora and eliminating the $10 tourist tax on Dominican passengers traveling to and from the Dominican Republic,” Espaillat said.

“I joined Dominican-American policy experts to present recommendations from the community, and removing the tax was a key priority,” he said.

“For a long time I have supported the requests to eliminate this tax and I recognize that this is a great victory for Quisqueyans residing abroad,” he said.

“Through my work in Congress I have been an advocate for consumer protection, and earlier this year I was able to secure consumer rebates from airlines through the US Department of Transportation on behalf of travelers,” he said.

“I promise to continue my efforts to help strengthen protections in favor of consumers, including the stabilization of airfare prices and other initiatives,” Espaillat said.
