The Former Peace Commissioner, Juan Camilo Restrepoassured that the THE N He has always insisted on deceiving Colombians with a supposed intention to dialogue.
In dialogue with RCN Worldthe former official said that proof of this was that in the government of Iván Duque the approaches were suspended, after the attack against the General Santander Police cadet school, located in the south of Bogotá.
“Always the response and gestures of these criminal groups, in this case the ELN, was bomb 23 students and that is why we did not recognize the protocols, because they went against international regulations and what progress in a peace process should be,” Restrepo said.
He added that, “This group of drug-trafficking criminals has been characterized by deceiving the Colombian people as it happened in our government. What we are seeing in the last few hours are mixed messages, to deceive the Colombian people.”
He argued that in the previous government the ELN ignored the insistent calls not to continue committing serious crimes and other crimes, so it was not possible to advance in the talks.
“From the beginning and being consistent with our government, I always told public opinion and the ELN that they should suspend the kidnappings, antipersonnel mine installations, to stop recruiting children, to stop drug trafficking to be able to make progress,” Restrepo said.
He argued that “we we always request the extradition of these criminals who were in Cubabut we could not move forward and justice, truth, reparation and non-repetition were always demanded”.
