In full celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, a group of 40 personalities from this community received recognition on Thursday from Congress for the contribution they make to Latino communities through their work.
In the event organized by the Multicultural Activist Association “Voz y Expresion” (Amavex), together with the office of the legislator of the House of Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz, from the 23rd District of Florida, the honorees received the United States flag as a symbol of distinction.
“The purpose is to recognize that we are part of that engine that moves the economy, that moves the system and that is part of the American multiculturalism,” Amavex spokeswoman Helene Villalonga told the Voice of America. “Each one of them represents the work of Hispanics in the United States and what better time than commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month.”
The celebration took place in the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, in Washington DC, where 25 Venezuelans also gathered, including comedians, television presenters and social media personalities.

One of the honorees was the actress and presenter, Erika De La Vega, who has been working in the US for a decade. “It’s nice to be able to share with so many colleagues that feeling of having left a country and being received, and recognized, by the one who opened his arms to us,” she told VOA.
In the letter of invitation sent by Congresswoman Wasserman to the honorees on September 1, she assured that “now, more than ever, it is important that we celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture, and recognize those who continue to strengthen Hispanic culture with their hard work. our nation.”
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year between September 15 and October 15 and, according to the United States Government, is intended to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America.
“It is a great pride, these are words that fill me with emotion. I am 28 years old in this country, I arrived in 1994 to achieve the long-awaited American dream. It has been a roller coaster of experiences but one of the most important moments is this”, added the well-known television presenter, Raúl González.
