It is not who leaked the IACHR report that matters, but what it says. Former President Evo Morales intends to focus attention on who disclosed the document, because surely in his logic what happened at the Las Américas hotel should never be revealed. Well, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights announced that extrajudicial murders and torture of detainees were committed, that preventive detention was abused and made punitive, among other things. That is the bottom of the matter. Now or later the information would be known. What will be done with her? The IACHR states that if the Government of Bolivia does not prosecute those responsible, the Bolivian State will be prosecuted in an international court. Beyond that, what happened is terror and there are those responsible identified. Is it that all this will go unpunished?
The president and the central government are wrong in affirming that the council of a million and a half of people is the will of a few opposition politicians. Let there be no confusion, the voice of the people from Santa Cruz is not the voice of a few radicals. The request is that there be a census in 2023 because of the need and the right to know how many we are and how we are doing. Everything else is just arguments to not meet a legal and legitimate claim. And the bad thing is that when there is closure and distrust, only what is convenient is heard, in this case only the arguments to say no to Santa Cruz are heard. A serious mistake by the president and his collaborators.
