Candidate João Azevêdo (PSB) will contest the second round of the elections for governor of Paraíba against federal deputy Pedro Cunha Lima (PSDB). With 99.73% of the polls counted, Azevêdo has so far obtained 39.6% of the valid votes.
Pedro Cunha Lima (PSDB) has 23.92%.
João Azevedo Lins Filho, 69, current governor of Paraíba, is a civil engineer. Born in João Pessoa, he was Planning Secretary for the city of Bayeux, Secretary of Infrastructure of João Pessoa and Secretary of Infrastructure, Water Resources, Environment and Science and Technology of Paraíba. The current vice mayor of Campina Grande, Lucas Ribeiro (Progressistas), 33 years old, is the candidate for vice governor.
Born in Campina Grande, Cunha Lima, 34, is a federal deputy, having been elected for the first time in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. Lawyer and professor, the candidate comes from a traditional political family in the state. His father is former senator Cássio Cunha Lima and his grandfather is former governor Ronaldo Cunha Lima. Pedro was elected federal deputy for the first time in 2014 and was reelected in 2018. Domiciano Cabral, 67, is the candidate for vice president.
