A sinkhole was formed in Espaillat street of the Colonial cityin the National District, after the earthquake that was felt in the Capital and other areas of the country this Saturday.
neighbors explained to Free Journal that after the tremor they saw that a small hole was formed in the Espaillat streetbetween Archbishop Nouel and Billini, specifically in front of house 167. The cavity is widening more and more.
The diameter of the hole is about 30 inches at the surface, but underneath the clay is displaced and the internal dimension is not visible due to darkness. The neighbors fear that a section of the road will collapse because the vehicles continue to travel.
“We call the CAASD and the press, but they haven’t come. That was done around the time of the tremor, it was a tiny hole, but it is getting bigger,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.
From what can be seen, there appears to be some water runoff due to the washing of the clay.
On other occasions sinkholes have formed, such as the one that occurred in 2018 on Arzobispo Meriño street, between Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó and José Gabriel García in the Colonial city.
