Caracas Metro and Yutong form working groups to recover metrobus units

The Metrobús system has not operated with quality in the nation for years. Surface routes are characterized by slow or intermittent service and are replicated across the nation. The 2022 Recovery Plan estimates to repair sixty units in the remainder of the year

The Caracas Metro company and the Chinese-Venezuelan company Yutong will form a joint work plan in search of the recovery of the metrobus units that are out of service, and that are necessary to cover the demand of surface transport users, hit in the last few years due to the increase in the cost of spare parts.

The information was announced by the president of the industry that produces these buses, Héctor Rojas, and his counterpart from the Caracas Metro, Juan Carlos Du Boulay Perozo, together with the head of the Bolivarian Union of Metro Workers, Edison Alvarado, outlined VTV

The 2022 Recovery Plan estimates to repair sixty units in the remainder of the year. For this, mechanics and specialists will receive around two thousand spare parts and supplies that are required to start up these metrobuses.

It is expected that 33 additional buses will be recovered, in addition to the goal of ten buses per month during January to August, in order to have another eighty more ready by the end of next year, 2023.

The president of the Caracas Metro urged to have faith and perseverance in the success of the work. “I am sure that we are going to succeed, I am open to your proposals. With respect, everything is possible, I have a lot to learn from you (…) good things are coming for the Metro, many new things for the superficial system. I trust you, the workers, in your quality and commitment to work, also believe in me, as president of the company, in our management as the main interest in your well-being”, he said.

The Metrobús system has not operated with quality in the nation for years. Surface routes are characterized by slow service or intermittency. Although its price is a break for some, it ends up being a headache for those who go to their work or study center against the clock. Long queues, deteriorated units and infrastructure, lack of air conditioning and conditions to travel are the vicissitudes that users of the capital face daily to travel on public transport.

The fault is replicated in various parts of the country. Anzoátegui, Bolívar and Caracas are some examples. In the first entity, the Rapid Transport Bus was inaugurated in 2015. According to authorities that administered the entity in that year, the project would mobilize some 80,000 people through 35 “comfortable” buses. However, much of the fleet is currently damaged. The project, moreover, is unfinished: there is no ticket office for the purchase and recharging of cards, there is no medical service or bathrooms, as the then ruler Aristóbulo Isturiz assured at the time.

In Bolívar, TransBolívar works halfway. It is a project that at the time of inauguration promised to transport some 100,000 passengers in a fleet that began with 400 units but is now decimated.

In Caracas, meanwhile, is the Bus Caracas, a system that started to reorganize vehicular traffic, but is now synonymous with deteriorated units, banditry and impoverishment.
