Advancing the succession process by almost a year has given President López Obrador ample room for maneuver to dismantle the opposition and, 20 months before the presidential election, create the perception of the inevitability of Morena’s victory.
Perhaps they overestimated their ability to control the groups that disputed the official candidacy for the Presidency and their ability to control ambitions, forgetting that in the dispute for power no quarter is given or requested.
The agitation on Sunday in CDMX for October 2, added to those of the IPN and UNAM, are the work of groups known to Palacio. They must control them, before they run amok and make the succession process a bloody blacksmith.
Painful, any effective anti-inflation plan
The Bank of Mexico’s prediction that it will be until the first quarter of 2024 when inflation can be reduced to the levels of a maximum of 3 percent that it maintained for a generation, makes the plan announced today at the Palace crucial.
Nobody should expect a narrative of self-flagellation but a realistic adjustment of the measures previously announced in the failed attempts to contain the famine that devours the purchasing power of the majority.
Those who know about economic matters should perhaps give the plan time, aware of something that one of the directors of the US FED said not long ago: successful anti-inflationary measures are always painful.
Exciting verbal violence, not harmless
We are hearing more and more from those who find the exchanges of insults and hate messages between politicians and parties exciting, because, they say, that verbal violence is inherent to democracy.
Whoever writes this believes that there are limits that the verbal violence of politicians and their supporters should not cross, because history has proven to us in Mexico that verbal violence easily passes to physical violence.
It would be worth asking those who find verbal violence interesting if they would find it equally interesting when it becomes physical violence and, as in the not too distant past, has a bloody balance.
