The Cathedral Basilica of Santa María la Antigua was the setting for the official presentation of the Nuncio Campos Salas, where he was given the staff, which, according to the Archbishop of Panama, José Domingo Ulloa, explained, because, as the successor of the apostles, “you have all doors open in this Church, to be able to exercise his pastoral ministry among the simplest, among the poorest, among the builders of society. Wherever a door opens, you will be very welcome.”
Monsignor Ulloa stressed that “here, in Panama, you will find a sense and deep affection for the Successor of Peter and a determined will to live in communion with him and with the Universal Church. For this reason, from this first meeting with the Church in Panama, we want to tell him that this is his home and that we want to offer him our affection and our broadest collaboration with the mission entrusted to him”.
At the end of the celebration, the Nuncio together with the bishops, stood before the image of Santa María la Antigua, to pray for her protection. At this time Monsignor Ulloa delivered an image of the patron saint of Panama.
