Inhabitants of the Chamita sector, located in the Jacinto Plaza parish in Mérida state, experienced moments of anguish after the overflow of the Matandita stream, which caused flooding in two of the town’s streets.

The information was released by Yubil López, one of the residents of the community, who claims to have witnessed, on the night of Monday, September 26, how the water ran through the streets of Tamanaco and Tiuna, thus causing serious damage to five homes in the sector. .

“The ravine gained strength and the water ended up generating floods in five houses in the sector. They all started to get their belongings out, but they couldn’t save much,” he said.

López recalled that 15 years ago the creek also overflowed and at that time the authorities carried out the weeding and cleaning of the creek.

“They have not done maintenance again and the logs and debris have accumulated, thus preventing the fluidity of the current. So far the magnitude of the damage is not known, what we know is that five families lost everything, “he stressed.

Officials of Civil Protection and Firefighters of the state of Mérida are constantly monitoring the overflow of the creek and have made an evaluation to determine the possible risks that exist for the families that live in the area, so that in this way they can take measures in this regard. .
