Big Data Analytics study, prepared by the firm LLYC, reveals the trend of local tourism searches has been increasing by 22% since 2020
The search for trips to carry out internal tourism in Dominican Republic was reduced by up to 67% during the health crisis caused by the covid 19 during 2020 and 2021, however, interest has regained a surprising boom, registering an increase of 86% compared to 2019.
This was revealed by a Big Data Analytics study, prepared by the firm LLYC on searches and digital public conversation to learn about travel and domestic tourism trends in three destinations in Latin America: Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama.
According to the study, in the Dominican Republic the trend of local tourism searches has been increasing by 22% since 2020, with interest in traveling mainly to the beaches of Punta Cana, Las Terrenas and Samaná.
He points out that although the search percentage is 53.1% lower than in 2017, the interest in offers when planning their trips is increasing, with the cities where the greatest interest is generated being the National District, La Altagracia, San Cristóbal, La Romana and Samaná, and among its main travel motivators are camping and hiking.

It also indicates that among the preferences of Dominican tourists are Punta Cana, Las Terrenas, Samaná, La Romana, Bayahibe, and Santiago de los Caballeros.
Also, it points out that Airbnb is the preferred option for travelers to stay, leaving all-inclusive hotels in last place.
“The interest in searching for hotels when planning a trip had remained in trend in the three countries until 2019, where it was surpassed by Airbnb by 1.53%,” the document reveals.
According to the LLYC study, the main factors that have influenced people’s preference for Airbnb versus hotels are price, length of stay, and the number of people traveling.
However, what still keeps hotels current are security and the type of trip (business example).
“In short, Dominican tourism today is heading towards new tastes and demands of a consumer who has realized the treasures that his island hides, which opens the doors to innovation and adaptation of tourism in the country”, highlights LLYC .
