Ukraine requested the “due reaction” of the Uruguayan government in relation to the participation of the leader of the wide frontSebastián Hagobian, as an “international observer” in the referendum promoted by Russia to annex four occupied Ukrainian regions to its territory.
Through the embassy in Buenos Aires, the government of Volodímir Zelensky calls Uruguay “to consider the possibility of prosecuting” Hagobian for considering that the referendum in which the Frente Amplio participated “seriously violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the basic principles of international law and indirectly supports Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine” .
The Ukrainian diplomatic representation welcomes the statement from the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry in which it dissociates itself from Hagobian’s participation as an observer in the referendum. In addition, he appreciates the solidarity and support expressed by Uruguay. The embassy understands that Hagobian participated “in a collective crime against the sovereign and independent state of Ukraine.”
