The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo sent its condolences to Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Managua, upon the death of his mother Lilliam Solórzano de Brenes.
The mother of the highest authority of the Nicaraguan Catholic Church died this Thursday morning, September 29, after months battling multiple ailments.
Funeral services will begin this Thursday at 3:00 pm It will be veiled at his home, and then mass will be held on Friday at 10 am in the Managua Cathedral, followed by his burial in Ticuantepe. “We pray for his soul and we ask God to give consolation to the archbishop and his entire family,” the Archdiocese of Managua said in an official statement.

«The Presidency of the Republic and the Government of National Unity and Reconciliation greet with respect in these sorrowful hours His Eminence Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes Solórzano and his family, together saddened by the departure of Doña Lilliam Solórzano de Brenes, mother of all and friend of so many,” said Rosario Murillo, spokesman for the regime this afternoon in his daily address.
“With the consideration and friendship of the families of Ticuantepe, of the mayors of Managua and Ticuantepe and of all of us, we bid farewell to doña Lilliam, certain that love for the Father and our Blessed Mother will continue to bring us together, inspired to continue forging paths of peace, of understanding and common good as proclaimed by our Christian faith”, added Murillo.
In August, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes canceled an important trip to Rome, where he was to meet with Pope Francis, to accompany his hospitalized mother. Both had a close relationship, they lived together in the Altagracia neighborhood and in recent years he had had several health relapses due to his age.
