The Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedroclosed this Thursday his round of activities in Washington with a meeting with the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs of the United States Department of State, Rena Bitterswithin the framework of the tour that the Executive official undertook to that country together with the governors of the region of Big north from Argentina.
De Pedro, accompanied by the National Director of Migration, Florence Carignanovisited the Washington Passport Agency, where they spoke with Bitter about “the management issues we have in common, with a focus on passport security”, reported the Minister of the Interior after the meeting.
There the holder of the political portfolio toured a documentation center, where the US government makes passports.
Previously, together with the governors of Chaco, Jorge Captainich; and from Formosa, Gildo Insfran; of Peter kept meetings with directors of the Microsoft companywhere they advanced in agreements to coordinate technological investments that allow expanding connectivity to the rural populations of those provinces.
Regarding this meeting, the head of the Interior stated that “we have advanced in a proposal for an agreement to coordinate technological advances, with a complementarity between public investment and private investment”, while underlining that this agreement will serve “to achieve greater connectivity for rural populations and for precision agriculture, with the possibility of financing it via green bonds”.
At the meeting, the general manager of Microsoft Airband, Vickie Robinsonand the director of that division for Latin America and the Caribbean, German Otaloramade a presentation on the new technological tools aimed at providing digital equity, in order to facilitate access to broadband for communities far from large urban centers.
Among other topics, the importance of rural connectivity for precision agriculture was discussed, and the objective was raised for Microsoft to make agreements with the different provincial governments in order to provide the fiber optic structure necessary to improve the connectivity that could facilitate education and precision agriculture in rural areas.
The idea is to ensure that the platform promoted by Microsoft can be used by the provinces, since the initiative aims to make broadband access a reality for remote communities around the world and help them transform digitally in the areas of attention medical, agriculture, education and small business enablement, according to the statement.
De Pedro and the governors of the Norte Grande, together with the general secretary of the CFI, Ignatius Lamothand the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Arguellothen toured the facilities of the aerospace company Space X.

In dialogue with authorities and experts from the firm, they exchanged information on connectivity in remote areas and the aerospace industry, and with a focus on the possibility of developing the potential of SMEs in the provinces to join the value chains of this sector of high technology.
The firm was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk and has developed several launch vehicles into space, the Starlink satellite constellation to form a global communications network, the Dragon cargo ship and carried astronauts to the International Space Station on the rocket of its design.
Last day on the schedule
This Friday, on the last day of the tour of the United States, which will take place in New York City, De Pedro and the governors will meet with authorities from the American Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), where they will be received by its president and CEO, Susan Segal.
After that meeting, and within the framework of his political meetings, the Minister of the Interior will meet with Dina Seiguel on the America Jewish Committee.
This Friday’s session will conclude with a meeting with investors, scientists, importers and distributors of Argentine products.
The tour of the United States is the second that De Pedro undertakes, together with provincial governors: the previous one was carried out by Israel, between April 22 and 28 last, and consisted of a scientific-technological cooperation mission on water management in that country.
That visit included tours of desalination, irrigation and smart metering plants in different parts of Israel, in addition to a full agenda of scheduled meetings between the Argentine delegation and Israeli officials, and with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog.
