Natalia Piergentili and the tension in the ruling party for the TPP11: “We are honest about the differences that exist”

The Comprehensive and Progressive Treaty of Trans-Pacific Association (TPP11) continues to generate discrepancies within the ruling party, with some members supporting the decision of the Government of President Gabriel Boric to delay its promulgation to resolve the issue of the “side letters” or those of others who hope to be voted on later in the Senate.

The issue is on everyone’s lips in the coalition, but it was not discussed this Thursday at the Palacio de La Moneda, where some of the presidents of the parties that make up the ruling party arrived. One of them was Natalia Piergentili, president of the PPD, who at the end of the meeting told The counter that “in the previous political committee we were honest about the differences that exist, which are not even between I Approve Dignity and Democratic Socialism”.

“Within Democratic Socialism there are parliamentarians who vote for and against. I mean, the different options are very transversal. For this reason, it was perhaps easier to be honest about what the fears, resentments, and apprehensions are, and those of us who are in favor state why and why it seemed important to us deep down, that the project had not been withdrawn, but that it allows us to continue debating,” he added.

Another who spoke was the president of the Communist Party, Guillermo Teillier, who said that the strategy of postponing its enactment “is in accordance with the regulations from what I understand. It is a very controversial issue. So it is necessary to give it all the laps that can be done. Everything is within a limited time. We already have a decision on the matter. We are sorry that the Government has not been given more time for the side letters, but things are as they are. So I think not The vote on TPP11 is going to take so long”.

“That is a prerogative of the president, which I imagine is not going to be given an infinite term for it, but also a prudent term that gives him the possibility of negotiating the side cards. I think that term should be given to him without further discussion, because from now until this is done, nothing is going to happen,” he closed.

Sources from Democratic Socialism are in line with what was said by the president of the PC, since they say that the President has not spoken of a specific term to give himself around the conversation of the side lettersbut they are clear that a vote in the Senate would speed up these dialogues.
