MIAMI, United States.- A group of Cubans gathered this Thursday afternoon in Calzada del Cerro, between San Pablo and Auditor, Havana, to protest and demand that the government replace the electricity, after several days without service due to the damage caused after the passage of Hurricane Ian.

To the cries of “We want the light!” Dozens of Havanans expressed their disagreement with the massive blackout that has the entire island in the dark since last Monday.

Another protest took place near the capital’s hospital known as La Covadonga, in which Cubans were protesting the lack of electricity for four days. The residents of the area complain, according to what they told CubaNet, that they have lost food that has cost them a lot to buy.

More protests have been reported in Surgidero de Batabanó, Mayabeque, and in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana.

Since last Monday the 26th, a few hours after Hurricane Ian left the north coast of Pinar del Río, Cuba, the island has been in a total blackout, according to the authorities due to “an opening in the national electrical system.

The information was confirmed by the Electric Union of Cuba in a post on Twitter, in which he assured that “work is being done to gradually restore the service.” However, the country continues without electricity service this Thursday, September 29.

The official media Cubadebate replied to the information on the national blackout and said that “the failure is given in the western, central and eastern links”, however, “it is a complex process that must be worked with precision to restore it. This complicated condition is also associated with the complex weather conditions that have affected the SEN infrastructure.”

“At this time, work is being done continuously on the reconnection of the system, the work will continue during the night of today, Tuesday, and the early hours of tomorrow, Wednesday,” the text added.

Cubans have taken to the streets during the last year mainly to complain about the continuous blackouts in the country, from the West To the east of the island there have been several towns that have risen up to demand that the government improve conditions in this regard.
