This Thursday, the Ministry of Transport, headed by Guillermo Reyes, and different taxi drivers’ unions met in order to discuss the concerns of the sector.
The meeting was attended by 150 people, including the Vice Minister, Eduardo Enríquez; the Superintendent of Transportation, Aida Lucy Ospina; the director of the Directorate of Transit and Transport of the National Police (Ditra), General Wilson Javier González; and the director of Transport and Transit of the Ministry of Transport.
In the event, the different actors made nine determinations which will be discussed with President Gustavo Petro on October 5.
1. At the head of the Traffic and Transportation Directorate of the National Police (Ditra) A new modality was announced to meet road safety needs, through the ‘Multipurpose Police’ strategy, which will act as control and citizen security officers.
2. The Government committed Through the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications, establish a roadmap that allows establishing the necessary conditions to attack the illegality in transport that occurs through digital platforms.
3. Soat fraud will be combated. The Government recognizes that the least evasion of this insurance is the taxi sector, for this reason “we have made an agreement to review with the insurers and the Government the types of insurance or policies that exist in order to have only one.” In addition, Reyes assured that they will verify the rates for the SOAT.
4. About fuel increases, The Minister of Transportation asked the transporters to present the proposals to generate a compensation figure between the increase and the other expenses that affect the price index.
5. About particular cases that are expressed in different interventions that involve the competence of the Superintendency of Transport, the actors made the commitment to study them in detail at the regional dialogue tables that will be held by said Superintendency and the Directorate of Transport and Traffic of the Ministry of Transport, which will be announced in the coming days.
6. The document that was delivered by the leaders and which was agreed upon at the national meeting by all the representatives, will be presented to the president on October 5.
7. It was recorded that in the discussion space Participation was given to all those who decided to speak and present their comments, petitions, proposals or requests.
8. It was agreed to establish consultation tables, specifically to review the transport regulatory framework. Through the National Transport Council and departmental tables.
9. Advance in a modification proposal of the leverage of the National Guarantee Fund, so that it can guarantee credit to small transporters.
In addition, the portfolio manager assured that determinations will be made on scrapping and a possible reform of the traffic code and transport code will be taken into account.
