Yubrank Suazo spends his birthday locked up in "La Modelo" for the second time

the political prisoner Yubrank Suazo Herrera, originally from the city of Masaya, turns 32 this September 29. This time, and for the second time, he will have to spend it locked up in the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as “La Modelo” in Tipitapa.

Article 66 tried to contact Suazo’s family to find out how they receive this special date, however, his father, Wilfredo Suazo, limited himself to confirming his son’s birthday, and avoided giving statements.

For its part, the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy congratulated the prisoner of conscience, expressing “his wish” that he be released soon. «Today September 29, Yubrank Suazo Herrera on your birthday; our greatest wish is that you will soon be free and can hug your dad, your mom, family and friends. May God keep and protect you!”

“We thank God that even in the conditions you find yourself in, today you celebrate another year of life. In spite of everything you are still strong, your faith is still intact; You continue to believe that a free and democratic Nicaragua is possible. You are not alone, your family is with you.”

Dolly Mora, a member of the opposition group, also joined in the congratulations of the once again conscientious person. «To Yubrank Suazo all our love and blessings on this birthday in which due to an injustice he will not be able to be with his parents, family and friends, I hug you little prince and I ask the Virgin for you to continue being your support in this hard moment », he stressed.

Second arbitrary arrest

This is the second time (the first was on September 10, 2018) that the student leader is being held in the men’s prison. On the morning of May 18, 2022, the Ortega Police raided his house in the San Juan neighborhood, in Masaya, and arrested him without any court order.

In this second “kidnapping”, the opponent remained captive in the torture cells of “El Nuevo Chipote” for 40 days and on June 30, the regime of Daniel Ortega ordered the political prisoner to be transferred to “La Modelo” and locked him up in punishment cell 300, “El Infiernillo”.

The Ortega regime found Yubrank Suazo guilty for the alleged crime of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and dissemination of false news.

Judge Ulisa Yahoska Tapia Silva, judge of the thirteenth Criminal District of Judgment, sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Before his arrest, Suazo had ruled out the possibility of going into exile.
