In Paraguay, 35% of deaths are due to cardiovascular diseases

Hoy Paraguay

Today, September 29, “World Heart Day” is remembered, to promote cardiovascular health care, in order to improve life expectancy and quality.

In Paraguay, cardiovascular diseases accounted for about 35% of all deaths in the last 5 years, among these, acute myocardial infarction caused 37% of deaths.

The actions to take care of the heart are to eat healthy, practice daily physical exercises, fight stress, take care of blood pressure, fight obesity, quit toxic habits (tobacco, alcohol and drugs) and take care of sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.

In this context, the Ministry of Health recommends having a routine annual medical check-up, from the age of 30 in men and, in women, from their first pregnancy.

The consequences of poor heart care tend to develop heart disease from an early age, harming people’s quality of life and life expectancy.

The campaign focuses on three pillars:

*I use heart for humanity

Access to treatment and support for cardiovascular disease varies widely around the world. More than 75% of CVD (Cardiovascular Disease) deaths occur in low to medium-sized countries, but access can be a problem anywhere. Therefore, it is essential to raise awareness about this disease that affects a large part of the world population.

*I use heart for nature

Air pollution is responsible for 25% of all CVD deaths and kills 7 million people each year. Whether it’s more immediate actions like walking or biking instead of driving, or longer-term efforts like supporting clean air legislation, each of us can contribute to a healthier planet in our own way.

*Use heart for you

Psychological stress can double the risk of having a heart attack. Exercise, meditation, and getting enough sleep help reduce stress levels. By resisting damaging coping mechanisms and stress-induced bad habits, we can maximize our individual heart health.
