Odebrecht: Preliminary hearing ends. MP reiterates call to trial for 49 people

After 13 days, the preliminary hearing of the Odebrecht case ended on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, Ruth Morcillo, responded to the incidents presented by the defense attorneys.

Morcillo pointed out that they were presented by the lawyers, of which the majority had already been resolved, for which they should be dismissed except for two, one of them due to double judgment that could be proven with respect to a defendant who had already been tried. in Uruguay and another due to a change in the precautionary measure.

He mentioned feeling “confident in the solid investigation, with financial reports and the traceability of the accounts that could not be distorted by the defense.”

On the other hand, the Superior Prosecutor Mahdmad Daud indicated that it is a complex file in which there are all the sufficient elements and a job of which the Public Ministry is sure.

“We are sure that a trial will be called and that is when we will ask for the full weight of the law for these people who, as I have pointed out, robbed State funds,” he added.

The Public Ministry reiterated the request for the call to trial for 48 natural persons and one legal person, for the crime of Money Laundering, for which the third judge Baloisa Marquínez accepted the term to decide.
