Santo Domingo.-Although diseases such as leptospirosis, dengue, malaria, gastrointestinal pathologies and tetanus could increase after Hurricane Fiona passed through the country, so far the Public Health authorities have ruled out any outbreak, while they remain active with prevention.
However, Gina Estrella, director of Risk and Disaster Management, reported that a small diarrheal outbreak was registered in a prison in Samaná, which has been controlled.
Meanwhile, the director of Epidemiology, Ronald Skewes, said that it is the right time to intervene in the affected areas.
Estrella indicated that there are days of fumigation, decacharrization, delivery of mosquito nets, medicines and consultations taken to the homes of the community members.
