A joint effort to recognize paternity will be held this Friday (30), from 7 am to 4 pm, at the headquarters of the Institute of Social Medicine and Criminology of São Paulo (Imesc). The action is a partnership with the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo (MPSP). Biological materials will be collected for DNA tests, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis and without prior appointment.
The Find Your Father Here project wants to facilitate the inclusion of paternity in the document of people who have not yet been legally recognized. The organizers point out that this recognition expands rights, including inheritance, in addition to rescuing the dignity of people who do not have this registered bond.
The project has been around for five years and more than 12,000 requests have been made since launch. The idea is that the joint efforts are made every month.
To participate, everyone involved – son or daughter, mother and probable father – must agree and attend together at the time of collection. They must bring original document with photo or birth certificate. The certificate will only be accepted for persons under 18 years of age. Screening and blood collection take place inside the organ itself in a reserved room.
Anyone who is not accompanied by the alleged father can continue the process with the support of the MPSP, which will be with a team on site.
If the alleged father has already died, it is possible to take the test with the presence of the mother and first-degree relatives of the deceased, such as parents (preferably), siblings (on the side of the father and mother) and children (with their respective mothers). .
After the DNA test, those involved will be called at the Public Prosecutor’s Office to receive the result. If applicable, they will be forwarded to the Civil Registry Office.
