MADRID, Spain.- The United States Coast Guard (USCG) rescued three Cuban rafters from the group of 23 who were reported as disappeared this Wednesday after a shipwreck near the Florida Keys during the passage of Hurricane Ian.
The rescue of these three people occurred about 2 miles south of Boca Chica, the entity reported through the social network. Twitter.
They were taken to the hospital “with symptoms of exhaustion and dehydration,” the information adds.
The Coast Guard assured that the air crews continue the search for the rest of the migrants.

The disappearance of the 23 migrants was reported by four Cubans who came in the group, 27, and who managed to swim to shore after their boat sank.
According to the statements of Walter N. Slosar, chief agent of the United States Border Patrol (CBP), the search has the support of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The deterioration of the weather conditions in the Straits of Florida has not prevented dozens of Cubans from continuing to risk their lives to try to reach the United States.
This Tuesday the Coast Guard detained seven migrants who arrived in Pompano Beach, in Broward County, amid adverse weather conditions due to Hurricane Ian.
While on Monday, prior to Ian passing through western Cuba, the USCG had detained a group of rafters who intended to cross the Straits of Florida.
According to US authorities, in the current fiscal year, more than 6,000 Cuban rafters have been rescued by the Coast Guard.
