Hurricane Ian makes landfall in Florida

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported Wednesday afternoon that Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida.

“The hurricane #Ian it has made landfall on mainland Florida just south of Punta Gorda, near Pirate Harbor. The maximum sustained winds in this landfall are estimated at 145 mph,” the National Hurricane Center highlighted on its Twitter account.

One million homes in Florida have already lost power, said PowerOutage, a specialized site that tracks power outages, according to AFP.

Before making landfall, Ian was already unleashing “catastrophic” storm surges, floods, and winds in the region.
