USAID will strengthen civil society organizations to promote development in the country

With the objective of strengthening the different organizations in Colombian civil society and, in turn, strengthening local partners so that they become leaders of development in Colombia, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Together with Family Health International (FHI 360) they will launch the Suma Social Program in the city of Bogotá on September 30.

This event will bring together more than 1,000 organizations that will benefit from this space. Among are ffamily and business foundations, independent associations, compensation funds, ethnic organizations, academia, victims’ organizations, organizations that provide services to civil society and networks, and many more.

This will be essential for the context of social cohesion, which seeks to generate inputs that contribute to the construction of the National Development Plan, which includes among its objectives the participation of community organizations based on local associations, as a method of implementing social and development policyseeking all the social transformations that generate equitable progress in Colombia.

It is necessary that civil society organizations have shown a contribution, that they generate a complement through solidarity action within the priorities of social policy in development, since one of their tasks is to participate, influence, in the social control of public policies.

In order to achieve this, the Suma Social Program will guarantee civil society organizations, individual and joint technical assistance issues that seek to enhance their capacitiesbe more effective in achieving goals and increase the impact of their actions in the territory.

The launch of this program will take place within the framework of an event called ‘Extremely Social: Tools for social transformation and collaborative action’, and its presentation will take place at the Marriott Hotel (Calle 26 # 69B-53 Bogota), of 8:00 am to 12:30 pm in which more than 150 attendees will meet and with a virtual participation in which the active participation of more than 1,000 attendees from the groups mentioned above is expected.
