The head of the Fire Department of La Chorrera, Eduardo Medrano, explained the results of the investigation into the smell of gas that on the morning of this Wednesday, September 28, caused the evacuation of the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital.
Medrano assured that they found 2 factors that triggered this strong smell, the first that the land was impregnated with diesel oil and that generated that smell, in addition to a tank that was uncovered.
The recommendation of the authorities was that they remove that land to minimize the problem.
There were 170 people who had to be evacuated due to the strong odor emanating from the ground and one of the hospital’s collaborators was affected but is stable.
The medical director of the hospital, Eliecer Santamaría, said that it is unknown how long they were exposed to that smell, but that it was probably generated during the excavations in the ambulance workshop.
After the inspection of the firemen in the hospital, the attention was normalized.
