Let us unite denounces the kidnapping of one of its members in Chontales

The Renewing Democratic Union (let’s unite) denounced the kidnapping of Orlando Campos, one of its members in Chontales. The citizen, according to the statement, was captured by a police operation in Juigalpa. The political organization has registered more than a dozen arbitrary arrests of its members or relatives.

“We denounce the arrest of our colleague Orlando Campos on the afternoon of Sunday, September 4. We demand his immediate freedom », refers to the complaint published on the Unamos social networks. According to the organization, all these arrests have been made by the Police without a court order.

Campos is an agricultural engineer and worked as a professor at universities on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua. He has belonged to the political group for more than 13 years, participating as an active member of the National Council in defense of land, lake and sovereignty.

Regarding the harassment by the Daniel Ortega regime, the Blue and White Monitoring indicates that nine incidents of police harassment in homes and threats of deprivation of liberty have been reported against members of Unamos Granada, Managua and León in September. The arrests have been reported in the South Caribbean Coast (RACCS), Chontales, León, Managua and Carazo.

Unamos has denounced that of the total number of detainees, only one person was released, the others have not even been seen by their families. In addition, the Police have not informed the causes to imprison them. Of all those detained so far, five are relatives of members of the opposition organization, “who have been captured to exert pressure against the political activists towards whom state violence is directed.”

According to the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), the regime has imprisoned and harassed at least ten members of the political movement, as well as their relatives. He indicated that this is a new “unprecedented” repressive pattern because it uses the relatives of the opponents of Unamos as hostages to achieve the arrest of the leaders, most of whom are in exile.

The Civic Alliance pointed out that “this dictatorial regime intends to annul the struggle for freedom and democratic construction by flaunting its criminal nature.” Among those recently imprisoned are Félix Roiz, Ana Carolina Álvarez Horvilleur and Jeannine Horvilleur Cuadra, relatives of exiled opponent Javier Álvarez. In addition, they include Freddy Martín Porras, brother of Dulce Porras Aguilar, also an exile. Several victims have opted for anonymity for fear of reprisals by the dictatorship.
