This Tuesday, September 27, the hearing was held against Alejandro Astesiano, head of the Presidential custody, who had been arrested and held incommunicado last Sunday, for alleged links to an organization that altered birth certificates.
The substitute criminal judge, Matías Porciúncula, determined that the hearing be reserved to “preserve the right of innocence” of the accused.
Preventive prison
For her part, the prosecutor Gabriela Fossati requested the formalization of the investigation and requested preventive detention for Astesiano, for the crimes of: “association to commit a crime”, a continued crime of “supposition of marital status as co-author” (forgery of marital status), and a crime of “influence peddling”.
After the prosecutor’s statement, Judge Porciúncula accepted Astesiano’s 30-day preventive detention, due to the possible risk of “obstruction of the investigation.”
For his part, the custodian of the Presidency requested special prison conditions, as a result of an altercation he had with inmates who had robbed his son last July.
As reported, at least 60 false birth certificates were made. In addition, it was indicated that Russian, Venezuelan, Cuban and Uruguayan citizens were also involved in the maneuver.
Applications were submitted by Russian citizens with birth certificates that claimed to have Uruguayan parents, becoming natural citizens to access Uruguayan passports.
