Activities that improved their Services sector index

During August 2022, the economic activities that presented the main increases in the service sector They were: teaching, with 2.63%; editing activities, with 2.46%; and rental and leasing activities, with 0.26%.

In July of this year, the teaching index was at 121.04 and in August it went to 124.22 for 2.63%. The same with editing activities, these went from 182.07% in July to 186.54 in August 2022, for an increase of 2.46%. Rental and leasing activities registered an increase of 0.26%, going from 144.99 in July to 145.37% in August.

The data is contained in the bulletin published by the National Statistics Office (ONE) on the Producer Price Index of the service sector (IPP Services). The document explains that the aforementioned activities contributed positively to the monthly variation with 0.22 percentage points.

Likewise, it is detailed that the main decreases were obtained in activities of travel agencies and tour operators, and reservation services and related activities, with -2.40%. Also, in land transport and pipeline transport, with -3.78% and, air transport, with -5.61%, which subtracted 0.75 percentage points from the monthly variation.

The ONE It also reports that, from December 2021 to August 2022, the economic activities that presented the main increases, according to divisions of the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE), were air transport, with 16.55%; rental and leasing activities, with 16.43%; and transportation by land and pipelines, with 14.49%. It adds that these activities contributed positively to the accumulated variation with 2.51 percentage points.

The public entity adds that the main decreases were obtained in sports, leisure and recreational activities, with -3.59%; and programming and transmission, with -4.54%, among others.

The statistics body explains in its bulletin that from August 2021 to August 2022 the economic activities that presented the main increases according to CNAE divisions were: accommodation activities, with 18.25%; rental and leasing activities, with 17.49%; and activities of travel agencies and tour operators and reservation services and related activities, with 10.71%.

According to the data, these activities contributed positively to the variation of the last 12 months with 1.40 percentage points.

The Producer Price Index of the service sector It is a statistical indicator that measures the average percentage change in the prices of a basket of services characteristic of national production, in a given period. These are collected and processed every month, according to the data provided by approximately 160 companies that offer services both in the national and international markets.

The main decreases were obtained in programming and transmission activities, with -3.71%; postal and courier activities, with -3.73%, and building services and landscaping activities, with -8.40%, subtracting 0.13 percentage points from the monthly variation.

Manufacture

In the Producer Price Index, of the Manufacturing Industries section (IPP Manufacturing), according to CNAE divisions, the economic activities that presented the main increases during August 2022 were: printing and reproduction of recordings, with 2.77%; manufacture of clothing, with 0.22%; and manufacturing of chemical substances and products, with 0.08%.

While the main decreases, according to the bulletin of the ONE, were obtained in the manufacture of elaborated metal products, except machinery and equipment, with -1.13%; manufacture of tobacco products, with -1.58%; and manufacture of common metals, with -4.37%, which subtracted 0.15 percentage points from the monthly variation.

Official data indicates that, from December 2021 to August 2022, the economic activities that presented the main increases according to CNAE divisions were: manufacture of coke and petroleum refining products, with 39.93%; manufacture of common metals, with 16.23%; and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, with 15.01%. These activities contributed positively to the accumulated variation with 3.09 percentage points.

While the main decreases were obtained in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, with -0.03%; manufacture of tobacco products, with -2.30%; and manufacture of leather and related products, with -3.27%, which subtracted 0.11 percentage points from the accumulated variation.
