The Association of Teachers of the University of the Republic (ADUR) held a meeting of the Expanded Federal Council of the union where it made an assessment of the current panorama regarding the parliamentary discussion for the allocation of resources for Udelar in the present Surrender of Accounts.
In a statement generated after the meeting, ADUR thanked all its members who participate in its activities. These allowed “to make visible the situation in which Udelar finds itself, the proposals that arise in this rendering of accounts and the effects of setbacks in the access and quality of public university education that it would suffer if the university budget is frozen.”
ADUR assures that after a delegation from the University appeared before the Budget Committee made up of the Treasury of the Senate, as well as mobilizations of university groups, “there have been various demonstrations by political actors to the press where they point out that ‘it is proposed to use items not executed available in the Ministry of Economy and Finance for about US$ 30 million’ and that “there will be an increase for Udelar’”. Therefore, they “understand” that there is “a budget margin that allows them to respond to this situation.”
“In this sense, to demand that these unexecuted and available items be applied to meet the most urgent needs that we have raised, including salary aspects, including an item on salary and structure inequities, student scholarships, and the incorporation of positions and hours to address the growing deterioration between the number of teaching hours and civil servants in relation to the number of students that is increasing”, they add.
Finally, ADUR issued a calendar of occupation mobilizations for this week that includes:
Monday 9/26:
• Occupation for 24 hours of the Faculty of Arts, until Tuesday night, with open workshops and activities.
Tuesday 9/27:
• Inter-union occupation of ISEF for 24 hours.
• Inter-union occupation of the Faculty of Psychology for 48 hours
Wednesday 9/28:
• Joint occupation of the Faculty of Information and Communication and the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Administration, with activities throughout the day and court in the afternoon of Gonzalo Ramírez Street.
• Inter-union occupation of the Maldonado Headquarters of the CURE activities from 8 am to 10 pm.
• Continuation of the occupation of the Faculty of Psychology
• 5 pm: Salto Cenur Litoral Norte Headquarters: Conversation “Secularity and freedom of expression in the framework of the budget conflict”.
• Veterinary ADUR: day of dissemination and propaganda at the Montevideo headquarters.
Thursday 9/29:
• Inter-union occupation of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism and active strike from 6:00 to 18:00, with open classes and activities in public spaces.
• Occupation of Faculty of Engineering together with AFFI.
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Partial strike of ADUR Agronomy (Av. Sayago headquarters) and open talk “Agricultural research: impact of budget cuts in Udelar”.
• Mobilization day at the Faculty of Sciences.
• 12 noon: Faculty of Chemistry: Terra street court and propaganda session, organized by ADUR Química.
Friday 9/30:
• 11:00 a.m. Day of open-air classrooms and communication with neighbors at the Cerro bus terminal, by ADUR APEX and ADUR OCE. *To these activities, others defined by the respective assemblies will continue to be added in the coming days.
