Óscar Osorio Casal, former Minister of Agricultural Development, spoke this morning on Radio Panama about the reality and expectations of the agricultural sector and national production.
He explained that producers are struggling with external factors such as rising input costs, the supply chain and climate change.
“Producers cannot continue to sell their products below cost and there are tasks that must be done and governments have to understand that the producer is not a producer who needs to live on subsidies, but must be given credit facilities. technical assistance,” he said.
He stressed that the government has carried out work so that rice production is not depleted and imports do not have to be made in the sector.
He stressed that the producer must be guided to find the right path to produce and increase productivity.
He made a call to streamline payments and facilitate credits to producers.
