Santiago Chamber of Commerce rejects march called by doctors against ARS and AFP

The executive director of the Santiago Chamber of Commerceor, Fernando Puig, rejected the march called by the Dominican Medical College (CMD), for this Wednesday, September 28 in that city, demanding that the Health Risk Administrators (ARS) and the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP) be eliminated.

The business leader considers that the moment is not propitious for confrontation, for which he recommended that the organizers of that protest depose it and engage in dialogue.

Puig understands that regardless of conflicting interests, dialogue would always be the best way to resolve any conflict.

“We believe that there are opportunities to correct, improve, but always joining the efforts of all sectors, labor, public and private, business, we can only set the Dominican Republic on the path of economic development and exceed the GDP and improve the quality of life and open the doors to future generations”, stated the businessman.

The statements of the main executive of the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago, were produced regarding the call for a march and other demonstrations called by the Dominican Medical Association and other organizations, who propose the elimination of the ARS and the AFP, a demand that has been rejected. by representatives of the union sector and other entities, for understanding that this would destroy two of the main achievements of the worker, such as access to adequate health services and obtaining a pension at the end of their working life for reasons of age or other causes.

However, the president of the union that brings together doctors, Dr. Senén Caba, has warned that protests such as those held in Santo Domingo, which will continue in Santiago this “Wednesday, would continue in other areas of the country.

“The Medical College and other organizations linked to health are determined to continue in the streets to draw the attention of the authorities and achieve the fulfillment of their objectives,” said the trade unionist.
