They collect signatures to question Landa

The Popular Renovation bench has been collecting signatures to present a motion of interpellation against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and thus explain the controversial interventions that President Pedro Castillo had in his speech before the General Assembly of the United Nations, regarding the Malvinas, the Democratic Republic of the Saharawi, Palestine and the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

The spokesman for this political group, Jorge Montoya, commented to Perú21 that the document currently has 18 of the 20 necessary signatures.

According to Montoya, among the groups that signed the request, in addition to Renovación Popular, are Avanza País, Somos Perú and parliamentarian Carlos Anderson (not grouped).

Fuerza Popular has not yet evaluated its adherence to the initiative. Congressman Jorge Morante (FP), a member of the Foreign Relations Commission, pointed out that a caucus agreement must first be reached, the discussion of which has been postponed due to the week of representation.

However, he announced that he rejects the president’s participation in the United Nations and agreed on the consequent responsibility that falls on the chancellor, who has been in the post for two weeks.

LANDA IN CONGRESS

For this same issue and others, César Landa yesterday attended the Foreign Relations Commission of Congress, chaired by parliamentarian María del Carmen Alva (AP), to answer a list of 22 questions.

Landa argued that the head of state ratified in his speech before the UN the historic position and the links of Peru with Palestine, the Malvinas Islands and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

“It is the historical position that Peru has maintained and has ratified under the president’s speech; this United Nations forum is the opportunity for each country to establish its main lines of foreign policy in different areas”, he pointed out.

Regarding the alleged interference of former Bolivian president Evo Morales in Peruvian politics during his visit in 2021, Landa replied that “the Government of Peru does not promote the participation of foreign political parties or leaders in national political events.”

The foreign minister’s intervention was not satisfactory for the opposition, which insisted on its rejection of Castillo’s participation in the UN and pointed to Landa as the political leader. “He has not convinced on many issues,” Alva said at the end of the session.

“This could not have come out of Pedro Castillo’s head simply because it occurred to him, someone from the Foreign Ministry had to give him a text; In this scenario, Landa is politically responsible,” congressman Diego Bazán (AvP) told this newspaper.

Parliamentarian Morante Figari lamented the good diplomatic relationship that is being set aside with Morocco after the ratification of the recognition of the SADR.

“With Morocco, a roadmap was started to improve trade relations; they were donating 150,000 tons of urea and now there is none,” he pointed out.

KEEP IN MIND

  • César Landa did not attend the Committee on . of Congress because he accompanied the president to Güepí, in Putumayo.
  • María del Carmen Alva was questioned for pointing out that the Saharawi Republic “is 40 tents in Algerian territory.”
